In India, 1403 manufacturers are registered to make green crackers.

The Supreme Court has ordered to release only green firecrackers on Diwali in Delhi-NCR, that too with certain conditions. There is a big problem in the conditions also. The court has said that permission to burst firecrackers will be available only between October 18 and 21. The second condition states that you cannot import firecrackers from outside Delhi-NCR.

The interesting thing is that only one manufacturer has the license to make green crackers in Delhi. That name is Gudiya Farworks. The official website of CSIR – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) has the complete list of firecracker manufacturers who have officially received permission to make green crackers. It is also mentioned in the list what kind of crackers they can make.

Where in the country are green crackers made?

The list till September 2025 on the official website of CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) includes names of many states which have the license to make green crackers. In this, more than 80 percent of the firecracker manufacturers are from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. That Shivakasi is called the stronghold of firecrackers. Sivakasi has 90% share in the total firecracker production in India.

There are more than 1000 small and big firecracker factories here. Commonly used firecrackers have been being manufactured in Shivakashi, but after the introduction of green firecrackers in 2019, the factories here gradually adopted eco-friendly firecrackers and started manufacturing them. Now it is at the forefront in the matter of green crackers also.

Not only Tamil Nadu, green crackers are being prepared in many states of the country. This includes Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Haryana and Punjab. In the list, 1403 firecracker manufacturers are registered to make green firecrackers.

Talking about Uttar Pradesh, its licenses have been given to firecracker manufacturers of Hapur, Meerut, Mainpuri, Etawah, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli. While Amritsar in Punjab, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Latur, Ahmednagar, Solapur and Osmanabad are included in Maharashtra. Hoshiarpur and Amritsar are in Punjab. In Rajasthan, licenses have been issued to firecracker manufacturers of Bharatpur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Jaipur.
