In a bid to enhance trust and curb fake engagement, X (formerly Twitter) is set to launch a new transparency feature that displays additional account details on user profiles. The initiative, announced by Nikita BierX’s Head of Product, will help users better assess the authenticity of the accounts they interact with online.

What The New Feature Includes

The update introduces a new “About this account” section that will showcase:

  • The country where the account is based
  • The number of times a username has been changed
  • The date of the last username change
  • The account creation date
  • How the account was registered (via App Store, Google Play, or web)

These insights aim to provide more context about each account’s origin and evolution, particularly useful in identifying impersonation, misinformation, or spam accounts.

Pilot Launch For X Employees First

Bier confirmed that the feature will initially be visible only on a handful of X team profilesincluding senior staff accounts, to gather early feedback and address potential privacy or usability concerns. After testing, the feature is expected to roll out to a broader user base worldwide.

Why It Matters

With misinformation and fake accounts continuing to challenge social platforms, X’s transparency push is designed to strengthen credibility and accountability. By revealing where an account originates and how it has changed over time, users can make more informed decisions about who they follow or engage with—especially on political, social, or news- content.

This update marks another step in X’s ongoing efforts to promote authentic, trustworthy engagement across its global community.
