The Punjab Maas International Theatre Festival 2025 concluded at Alhamra with a heartfelt celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. Over six vibrant days, Lahore became a hub of artistic expression, bringing together performers, storytellers, and audiences from across the world.
Organized by the Government of Punjab in collaboration with the MAAS Foundation and the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra), the festival showcased an impressive mix of international and local theatre performances, interactive workshops, and thought-provoking discussions. The event highlighted how art continues to bridge divides and speak a universal language of empathy and unity.
The closing day featured a stimulating panel discussion titled “Theatre, Film, and Storytelling”, moderated by Rabiya Hassan. Renowned filmmaker Syed Noor and artist Uzma Asraf shared their insights on the creative journey from stage to screen, reflecting on how both art forms complement and enrich one another.
The day’s performances included “Kaho Mujh Se Muhabbat Hai” by Punjab University’s theatre group Natak, and “RED” by DramaEd, Pakistan. In a powerful display of cross-cultural collaboration, artists from Tunisia and Pakistan presented “Traces”, an evocative performance blending movement and poetry.
Throughout the week, audiences were treated to a rich lineup of performances from France, Greece, China, Ireland, and Pakistan. Workshops led by international artists such as Christian H. Schröter (Germany) and Christina Gyftaki (Greece) offered participants a deeper understanding of pantomime and performance art.
Festival founder Aamir Nawaz described the event as “a dream realized through passion and collaboration,” emphasizing that the gathering served as a platform to unite global artists under one creative vision.
Executive Director Mahboob Alam reflected, “Theatre speaks beyond language—it connects hearts. This festival was a dialogue of cultures and a call for peace.”
