Bhubaneswar: Even as their big brothers keep trying to progress beyond the league stage of Ranji Trophy, Odisha’s U-19 boys have advanced to the knockout stage of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2025-26.
Odisha’s youngsters made the cut after thrashing Baroda by 6 wickets in a one-sided match at Sehwag International School in Haryana’s Jhajjar on Friday.
It was Odisha’s fourth win on the trot, helping them finish second in Elite Group A with 16 points in 5 games. After losing to group toppers Gujarat (20 points), Odisha got the better of Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha, Goa and Baroda.
It was their bowlers who once again rose to the occasion in the 50-over format competition.
Baroda’s decision to bat first on winning the toss backfired badly as they were bowled out for just 107 in 27.3 overs. Priyanshu Mohanty and Rudra P Mallick bagged 3 wickets apiece for Odisha.
Odisha made short work of the modest target, reaching 111/4 in 18.4 overs. Prayan Pratik Samal smashed 3 sixes and 2 fours on way to a 20-ball 34, while Biswajeet Pradhan remained unbeaten on 27.
