News India Live, Digital Desk: Esophageal Cancer Risk : Brother, give me a strong, hot tea!” – You will hear this voice on every street, every nook and corner of India. For us, tea is not just a drink, but a feeling. From waking up in the morning, to getting rid of the tiredness of the day and chatting with friends, tea is an important part of our lives. But is this habit of yours, this urge to drink “sizzling tea”, gradually leading you to a serious disease? Pushing towards?
Many recent studies have made a worrying revelation for tea lovers. These reports claim that drinking too much hot tea, coffee or any other beverage increases the risk of food pipe or esophagus cancer manifold.
So should we stop drinking tea?
Don’t panic! The problem is not in the tea, but in the way you drink it and its temperature. You can enjoy your tea comfortably, you just need to take a little caution.
How hot is ‘deadly’?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also issued a warning on this. According to scientists, any beverage whose temperature exceeds 65 degrees Celsius (149°F), if consumed regularly, can cause cancer. You will be surprised to know that when tea is prepared and poured into a cup, its temperature often ranges from 70 to 85 degrees Celsius. When we drink such hot tea, it burns the delicate inner layer of our food pipe.
In the language of science it is called ‘thermal injury’. When this process is repeated every day, the body continuously tries to repair those burnt cells. In this continuous process of damage and repair, changes may occur in the cells that may eventually lead to cancer.
There is ‘double’ danger for these people
It is very important to know that drinking hot tea alone is not a guarantee of cancer. But if you also smoke (cigarettes, beedis) or consume alcohol along with drinking hot tea, then this risk for you increases up to five times.
Imagine, hot tea has already weakened the protective layer of your food pipe by burning it. Now when you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, their poisonous and cancer-causing chemicals find a direct path to penetrate that weak layer and enter the bloodstream. This is a very dangerous combination.
So what is the easy way to escape?
Its solution is very easy. You don’t need to give up your tea habit at all.
Just be patient for “two minutes”!
Instead of rushing to drink the tea after pouring it in the cup, just leave it for a few minutes. Let it cool so much that you can sip it comfortably without burning your tongue. In India, drinking tea with milk is more prevalent, which reduces the temperature of tea a bit, which is a good thing.
Next time you drink tea, remember – your health is in your hands. A small change in habit can save you from a major and deadly disease. Enjoy tea, but wisely
