Saturday’s washed out match between New Zealand and Pakistan in Colombo means that South Africa has been confirmed as the second team to reach the semifinals of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 after Australia. The Proteas have eight points from five matches thus far, with matches against Pakistan and Australia remaining.
Defending champion Australia was the first team to confirm its slot in the final four.
India still has its fate in its own hands heading into a crucial run of games. Its final three league stage matches are against England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, and victory in all three will take it to a total of 10 points, enough to confirm a slot in the final four.
A India win against New Zealand would be enough to confirm England’s place as the remaining semifinalists, as the White Ferns would only be able to reach six points should it suffer defeat.
Defeat in all three matches would spell definite elimination for the tournament hosts, while only a win against Bangladesh would leave it dependent on the outcome of the England-New Zealand clash.
England’s current haul of seven points leaves it well placed to secure a spot in the next stage, with one win from its remaining fixtures against India, New Zealand, and Australia enough to confirm a spot in the next round.
No team has been has been eliminated from the tournament yet, although qualification seems difficult for Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
