Robbers attack Dhanbad’s coal mine, take employees hostage and commit massive looting

Dhanbad: On Friday night, a group of robbers took hostage seven employees of Hariajam No. 27 underground mine under ECL Mugma area and looted iron material as well as cables from the old store room. The value of the looted goods is said to be in lakhs of rupees. In this regard, the process of registering an FIR in Nirsa police station is being started by the colliery management. The hostage workers told that at around 3:00 pm on Friday night, a group of 25 to 30 robbers raided the colliery premises.

The group of robbers first took the security personnel Bechu Singh, Manya Kumbhkar and Home Guard jawan Anil Singh hostage at gunpoint. After that, the members of the robbers’ group took the three security personnel taken hostage and took them to the tram room. Tramper Anil Mochi, Seemanchal Nayak and two other personnel present there were also taken hostage. All the people were locked in the tram room and tied with wire to a latch from outside. During this time, the robbers also snatched the torch and mobile phone of home guard Anil Singh. However, Anil Singh’s mobile was kept outside the tram room by the robbers which was later found. After that, the robbers easily broke the lock of the old store room of the colliery and looted the iron material and old cables kept there and went away. Later, the hostage worker somehow put out his hand and opened the wire fixed to the latch and went out and informed the senior officer about the matter. By the time the regional security patrol team and colliery management people arrived, the robbers had already looted the goods.

The hostage workers said that the number of robbers alone was 25 to 30 and their age was between 25 to 30 years. Everyone had covered their faces with towels and handkerchiefs. They were talking amongst themselves in Bengali and Khortha. Everyone had sticks, rods and sharp weapons in their hands. The robbers were telling us that we were carrying ECL goods. If you people protest, you will lose your life.
