Take up development work if you want: Shivakumar to Kiran
18 Oct 2025

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has responded to Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw's criticism of Bengaluru's infrastructure.

The billionaire entrepreneur had earlier expressed her concerns over poor road conditions and garbage management in the city, citing a foreign business visitor's remarks during a tour of Biocon Park.

In response, Shivakumar suggested that Mazumdar-Shaw could take up the development work herself if she wanted.

"If she wants to develop them (roads), let her do it," he said.

"Bengaluru city generates ₹6,000 crore in taxes... We have allocated funds for the development of this region," he said.

The Deputy CM also encouraged citizens to report issues directly to him and assured action against corrupt officials.

"If anyone demands a bribe, I have instructed that they be suspended by this evening."

Karnataka Minister MB Patil also acknowledged Mazumdar-Shaw's contributions to the state but said her criticism was not in "good taste."

He added that development work is ongoing and urged patience as improvements are made.

Earlier, Shaw had posted about "an overseas business visitor to Biocon Park who said ' Why are the roads so bad and why is there so much garbage around? Doesn't the Govt want to support investment?"
