Shubman Gill Post Match: ODI captaincy has not had an auspicious start for Shubman Gill. He had to face defeat on his ODI captaincy debut against Australia. After losing the toss, Team India came out to bat first. The match was stopped thrice due to rain, hence the game was scheduled for 26 overs. India scored 136 runs, but due to DLS the hosts got the target of 131 runs. Which he easily achieved by taking 7 wickets. After this defeat, Shubman has given his reaction.

Shubman Gill said after the defeat

Shubman Gill said the failure of the top order after Perth ODI was the biggest reason for the defeat. He said that when 3 wickets fall in the beginning then it becomes difficult to win. He said,

The biggest reason for Team India’s defeat in Perth ODI was poor batting. Rohit Sharma, who returned after 7 months, scored 8 runs, and Virat Kohli remained without opening the account. In such a situation, Shubman Gill needed to stay on the pitch as captain. But the captain was not successful in doing so.

However, his wicket fell in an unfortunate manner, against Nathan Ellis, Gill tried to play a leg stump ball which took the edge of the bat and went into the hands of the wicketkeeper. Shubman scored 10 runs in 18 balls, 2 fours were seen from his bat.

Account of first ODI

Losing the toss had become the biggest problem for Team India in Perth, on top of that the batting flop became the biggest reason for the defeat. India had lost 4 wickets on the score of just 45. In the end, KL Rahul and Akshar Patel played a big role by scoring 38 and 31 runs respectively in taking the score to 136 runs in 26 overs. But Australia got the target of 131 runs due to DLS. Mitchell Marsh played a captaincy innings by scoring 46 runs in 52 balls and led his team to victory.
