A London airport has cautioned travellers about extended security queues following an IT "issue" earlier this morning. On Monday, October 20, officials at London Stansted released an alert on X, formerly Twitter.
The alert, in full, reads: "Information Update. Due to an earlier IT issue that affected the availability of some security lanes at London Stansted, queue times at security may still be longer than usual. London Stansted apologises for the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience."
Stansted ranks as the UK's fourth busiest airport (behind Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester), handling hundreds of flights daily and serving millions of travellers annually. It stands as the sole major London airport boasting substantial runway capacity and provides a European route network that remains unmatched across the UK, delivering more European visitors to London than any rival airport.

Over 20 airlines operate from London Stansted, connecting more than 40 nations and exceeding 200 destinations globally. It boasts the highest number of European destinations among UK airports, and ranks second across Europe, trailing only Munich.
Based on its website, the leading destinations - in sequence - are Dublin, Rome, Malaga, Barcelona and Cologne. Primary UK destinations include Edinburgh, Belfast and Glasgow, while Spain emerges as the most sought-after country for flights.
