
A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on Monday disrupted several high-profile platforms across industries, including McDonald’s, Canva, Perplexity AI, Snapchat, Robinhoodand Coinbasealong with parts of Amazon’s own ecosystem.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetectorover 2,000 outage incidents were reported in the United Stateswith widespread disruptions affecting access to popular apps, streaming platforms, and financial services. The issue originated from Amazon Web Serviceswhich powers a significant share of the world’s digital infrastructure.
Even Amazon.com, Prime Videoand Alexa faced interruptions, while Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas confirmed the disruptions were linked to an AWS- issue that temporarily affected the company’s operations.
Other platforms impacted by the outage included:
Venmo, Crunchyroll, Roblox, Rainbow Six Siege, Canvas by Instructure, Coinbase, Canva, Duolingo, Goodreads, Ring, The New York Times, Life360, Fortnite, Apple TV, Verizon, Chime, McDonald’s App, CollegeBoard, Wordleand PUBG Battlegrounds.
AWS acknowledged on its status page that it was experiencing “increased error rates and latencies” across several key services, including AWS Config, Amazon EC2and AWS Systems Managerand that engineers were working to restore full functionality.
While some services began recovering later in the day, users around the world continued reporting connectivity issues well into the afternoon. Amazon has yet to issue an official statement detailing the full scope or duration of the outage.
The large-scale disruption once again highlights the global reliance on AWS infrastructureshowing how a single cloud service outage can ripple across industries — from fintech and entertainment to food delivery and communication platforms.
