Navjot Singh Sidhu on Fake News: In the era of social media, the spread of fake news has now become common. Every day, false statements or edited posts in the name of celebrities go viral. Recently, a similar case has come to light, in which the name of former Indian cricketer and popular commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu has been included. A statement in the name of Sidhu went viral on social media in which he had demanded BCCI to remove Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar from their posts. However, Sidhu has now given his reaction on this and called it completely fake news.

What was written in the fake post?

This alleged statement was attached with Navjot Singh Sidhu’s picture in the viral post. It was written in this post that “If India wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup, then BCCI should remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir from their posts as soon as possible and hand over the captaincy again to Rohit Sharma.”

This post was being shared rapidly on social media before the start of India vs Australia ODI series. However, on this Sidhu himself came forward and gave clarification and said that he has not given any such statement.

Sidhu reprimanded those spreading fake news

The former cricketer refuted the viral post on social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter) on Monday. He wrote, “I never said this. Don’t spread fake news, never even imagined this. You should be ashamed.” Sidhu made it clear through his post that the news spreading in his name is completely false and it has been spread only for the purpose of spreading confusion. He advised those spreading fake news to understand the importance of responsible journalism and truth.

Discussion increased after changes in BCCI

Recently, BCCI has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of the Indian ODI team in place of Rohit Sharma. Since this decision, there has been a continuous debate on social media whether the time of senior players like Rohit and Virat Kohli is over. Amidst this debate, this fake statement in the name of Sidhu was made viral.

Questions raised on Agarkar and Gambhir

Amidst the viral controversy, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar also recently expressed his views in the ‘NDTV World Summit’. He said that no hasty decision will be taken regarding the future of Rohit and Kohli. During this time he had said that “If he does not score runs in Australia, it does not mean that he will be dropped from the team. And if he scores three centuries, it also does not mean that he will be directly included in the World Cup team.”

Rohit and Virat flopped against Australia

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who returned to international cricket after a long time, could not live up to the expectations. In the first ODI played in Perth, Rohit scored 8 runs on 14 balls, while Virat scored zero runs on 8 balls. India had to face defeat by 7 wickets in the match affected by rain. Now the second ODI of the series will be played in Adelaide on 23 October.
