24htopnews | October 21, 2025 6:20 AM CST

Synopsis

BART trains are facing major delays Monday morning because of a track problem near Embarcadero Station. Red Line and Green Line services are affected, and trains are using only one track. Commuters are advised to use transfer options. BART has not said when normal service will return, and the system has faced multiple delays in the past.

An interruption in the Transbay Tube, which goes from San Francisco to East Bay, let to a delay in schedule for BART. The problem stems from an equipment malfunction at Embarcadero Station track, which was first reported at around 6:20 am.

Because of the problem, trains are running single tracking through the tube, meaning they have to share one track, as per the report by CBS News. As of 7 a.m., the Red Line is not running between Millbrae and Richmond. At the same time, the Green Line is not running between Daly City and Berryessa/North San Jose.

On May 9, BART had a major hours-long shutdown across the system due to computer issues. A fire near San Leandro Station in May also caused major delays and forced Green Line service shutdowns for repairs. On September 5, BART again had hours-long systemwide shutdowns caused by computer problems.

Red and Green Line service update

It led to the green and red trains using only one track through the Transbay Tube as of 7:55 am on Monday, with the red line ferrying passengers between Richmond and Millbrae and the Green Line from Daly city to Berryessa and San Jose.

BART has not shared more details. We don’t know when trains will run normally. Commuters are facing big delays.
