Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines glow amidst thousands of lamps on Diwali; BKTC organizes special event

Kedarnath: Kedarnath and Badrinath temples in Uttarakhand celebrated Deepotsav 2025 with a breathtaking display of lights and devotion. Thousands of earthen lamps, or diyas, were lit across the temple complexes, turning the sacred shrines into glowing symbols of faith and tradition.

In Kedarnath, around 15,000 diyas were lit as part of the Deepotsav celebrations. Devotees, temple staff, and locals participated in the event, offering prayers and lighting lamps with devotion. Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, also joined the celebrations with 12,000 diyas.

Special event in Char Dham shrines

The temple courtyard and surrounding paths were filled with light, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee organized the event, ensuring that the traditions were followed with care and respect.

The Deepotsav festival, which includes Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Uttarakhand’s Char Dham shrines. Lighting lamps is considered a symbol of removing darkness and bringing prosperity and happiness. This year’s celebrations were especially grand, as devotees from across the country came to witness the beautiful sight.

Locals and pilgrims witness grand event amid cold

Locals and pilgrims expressed joy and gratitude for being part of the event. Many said that the glowing temples gave them a sense of peace and spiritual connection. The cold mountain air mixed with the warmth of the lamps created a unique experience for everyone present.

Safety measures were strictly followed

The temple committee also ensured that safety measures were followed. Volunteers helped guide the crowd, and arrangements were made to keep the lamps burning throughout the evening. As the doors of Kedarnath temple are set to close for winter on October 23rd, the Deepotsav celebration added a special farewell touch. Devotees felt blessed to witness the temple in full glory before the seasonal closure.
