The world’s popular messaging platform WhatsApp has now brought an important update to get rid of messages coming from unknown numbers – spam and fraud. Under this new update, users will now get the option to automatically block high-volume messages coming from unknown accounts.
What is the new feature?
This feature mainly targets those messages which are not saved in your phone book, and which are causing sudden bulk messages. Users can activate it manually:
Go to WhatsApp → Settings > Privacy > Advanced → Turn on ‘Block unknown account messages’ there.
Once this option is turned on, when an unknown number sends multiple messages regularly, the platform will automatically identify it and stop the messaging.
Note, this feature does not block all unknown messages, but only applies when the number of messages increases significantly.
Why is this important?
The new feature has been introduced in WhatsApp because unwanted messages — especially from unknown numbers — are not only increasing stress but also providing opportunities for fraud.
Earlier, when a message came from an unknown number, the user had to manually open the chat and select the ‘Block’ option.
The new update makes this process simpler — when a message comes from an unknown number, the user will directly get the option to block it or not.
This way, not only personal security will be enhanced but also the load on the device will be reduced as the wave of spam messages drains the battery and resources.
How to use?
Make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp.

Go to Settings → Privacy → Advanced.
Turn on the ‘Block unknown account messages’ option.
After this, if you continue to receive messages from unknown numbers, WhatsApp will automatically block them.
If you want to block an unknown number completely, do not add it to your contact list and select ‘Block & Report’ option when the message comes.
pay deliberate attention
Despite this facility, if an unknown person stops sending after a few messages, he will not be considered within this rule. That means the “first message” may still arrive.
Before activating this feature, make sure you have added your loved ones to your contacts to avoid unnecessary message blocking.
This feature is currently available in some beta versions and the full rollout may take time.
