Bhagalpur. A big initiative has emerged regarding railway infrastructure in Bihar, which will benefit the state as well as Northeast India. Eastern Railway has prepared a proposal to lay the third and fourth railway lines between Barharwa and Bhagalpur. This scheme will not only increase the convenience of passengers, but will also make freight transportation more smooth and timely. This railway network expansion can prove to be a milestone in the economic and industrial development of Bihar.

Project scope and cost

Under this project, construction of two new railway lines totaling 256 kilometers is proposed. The length of each line will be 128 kilometers. For this, Railways has sent a proposal of Rs 4879.63 crore. Engineers estimate that the Railways will get a commercial profit of 27.50% and a financial profit of 11.03% from this project.

Goods transportation will get big benefits

Time plays a big role in the movement of food items, coal and other commodities in North Bihar, Kosi-Seemanchal region and North-Eastern states. Currently, goods trains need to store goods in warehouses or cold storage as the double lines are often busy. With the construction of new lines, goods can be loaded and shipped directly, which will reduce the storage costs of traders and the goods will reach their destination on time.

Operation of passenger trains will get a boost

Currently, semi high speed trains like Tejas Express are operating on this route. But with the new lines it will become easier to run these trains without any hindrance. Along with this, the possibilities of operating Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains will also increase. Facing work is also going on along the railway track so that no external obstruction hinders the movement of trains.

The third line has already been approved

The plan for the third rail line between Bhagalpur and Jamalpur has already received the green signal. The construction of this 53 kilometer long line is estimated to cost Rs 1156 crore and a target has been set to complete it in three years. At present, the process of land acquisition is going on.

Economic benefits and development prospects

The construction of new lines is estimated to generate direct financial benefits of approximately Rs 538 crore and commercial benefits of Rs 1341 crore every year to the Railways. This project will not only benefit the Railways but will also give impetus to employment, business and infrastructure development at the local level.
