News India Live, Digital Desk: Our feet are the part of our body that helps us move, but we often ignore their health. Some small changes seen in the feet, such as color change, swelling, itching or pain, can be a sign of a serious health problem. Zee News is telling you about those foot signs which you should pay immediate attention to:

1. Swelling in feet (Edema):
Often, standing or sitting for a long time can cause mild swelling in the legs, but if it persists and becomes severe, it can be a sign of kidney problems, heart failure or liver failure. Along with the feet, swelling can also be seen in the ankles and toes.

2. Changing color of feet:

  • Cyanosis: If your feet, especially the toes, start looking blue, it may be a sign of lack of oxygen in the body. This may be a symptom of poor blood circulation or extreme sensitivity to cold.
  • Pallor: Excessive yellow or white appearance of the feet may be a sign of anemia (blood deficiency) or poor blood circulation.
  • Blackness or dark color: Sudden darkening or darkening of the skin may be a symptom of a serious injury, infection, or, in rare cases, skin cancer (melanoma).

3. Severe pain or cramps in legs:
Sudden severe pain or cramps in the legs while walking or resting can be a sign of blood clot (DVT – Deep Vein Thrombosis) or peripheral artery disease (PAD). In PAD, the legs do not get enough blood, which causes pain while walking.

4. Blisters or wounds on the skin that do not heal:
Especially in diabetic patients, if even small wounds or blisters on the feet do not heal, it can be a sign of diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage) or poor blood circulation. The risk of infection increases greatly in such wounds.

5. Very dry or flaky skin of feet:
Extremely dry skin, flaking or cracking of the skin can also be a sign of skin problems like thyroid problems, fungal infections or eczema.

6. Itching in feet:
Persistent itching may be a symptom of a fungal infection (such as athlete’s foot), allergies, or eczema.

7. Numbness or tingling in feet:
Numbness or tingling in the feet may be a sign of pressure on the nerves or diabetic neuropathy. This can sometimes also occur due to deficiency of Vitamin B12.

When to take doctor’s advice:
If you notice any of these symptoms persistently or severely, you should contact a doctor without delay. Foot health is a reflection of overall health, and ignoring these signs can be dangerous.
