Figs are a highly nutritious and fiber-rich fruit. Dry figs are rich in iron, calcium, antioxidants and natural sugars. Anjeer Halwa is a dish that is sweet but not too sweet, and is also good for health. This move is loved by everyone from kids to adults. Interestingly, this halwa requires very little sugar or sometimes no sugar at all and can be made with only the natural sweetness of dates and figs. Materials:

  • Dried figs – 1 cup (about 10-12 figs)
  • Dates (seed removed) – ½ cup
  • Milk – ½ cup (as required)
  • Sajuk Ghee – 3-4 tbsp
  • Veldoda powder – ½ tsp
  • Dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios, walnuts) – as desired
  • Saffron – few sticks (optional)

Action:

  • For this, first soak dry figs and dates in hot water for 15-20 minutes.
  • Then make a fine paste of it in a mixer. Make a smooth paste using little milk.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan and roast the dry fruits lightly.
  • In the same pan add the remaining ghee and start frying the fig-date paste on low flame.
  • The paste will start to become sticky and its color will darken slightly. Stir continuously.
  • Now add milk and saffron. Stir the mixture well.
  • The halwa is ready when the ghee starts to release and stops sticking to the pan.
  • Finally add veldoda powder and roasted dry fruits and mix well.
  • Serve it hot or cool and it looks good as a vada too.
  • If the figs are too dry, soak them overnight in milk to soften them.
  • No need to add sugar, but if you want it sweeter, you can add 1-2 tbsp of sugar.
  • This halwa lasts for 3-4 days in the fridge
