Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Tuesday that Agniveers retiring in 2026 and after will be recruited into the state police force. Former Agniveers will be directly recruited into the police force for the positions of constable, mounted constable, and fireman. The Chief Minister stated that, like ex-servicemen, former Agniveers will receive a three-year age relaxation and 20% horizontal reservation in these recruitments.

CM Yogi made this announcement during his address at the Police Memorial Day 2025 ceremony held on October 21st at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow, the state capital. Praising the state police, the Chief Minister said that due to strong law enforcement and effective coordination, all festivals, fairs, VIP visits, political rallies, and demonstrations have been conducted peacefully.

How many recruitments have been made in the UP Police under the Yogi government?

During his address, CM Yogi stated that since 2017, the UP Police has recruited 2.09 lakh employees, including 34,000 women, and promoted over 1.52 lakh officers. Currently, recruitment is underway for 28,154 posts, and promotions are underway to fill 2,391 posts. He also stated that over 60,000 constables have recently been recruited into the police force.

20% of posts will be reserved
The Yogi government had previously announced that former Agniveers would be given priority in police recruitment. 20% of posts will be reserved for them, and they will also be granted the benefit of 20% horizontal reservation. This means that Agniveers belonging to a category, such as SC, ST, OBC, and EWS, will receive the benefits of that category.

In addition to police recruitment, CM Yogi had previously announced reservations for former Agniveers in the PAC. In his address, the Chief Minister said that since the BJP government came to power in the state, recruitment has increased significantly. Training is being provided using a hybrid system that includes physical, legal, technical, cybercrime, and AI-based simulation modules.
