Rose plant holds a special place in every garden or balcony. Its beauty and fragrance make it everyone’s favorite. But many times it has been seen that the plant develops a bud but the flowers do not bloom properly. This not only reduces the beauty of the plant but also makes the person taking care of the flowers sad.
Often people think that this is due to some major disease or pest, but most of the causes are to lack of simple care or ignoring the natural needs of the plants. If you understand what conditions the plant needs to bloom, you can easily produce a bounty of roses.
lack of sunlight
Rose plants require at least 3–4 hours of sunlight every day. If the plant does not receive enough sunlight, bud opening becomes difficult and flowers may remain small or pale. The right balance of sunlight is essential for healthy plant growth and flower quality. Note that by changing the location of the pot or plant, the number of buds and flowers in the plant increases only if it gets direct rays of the sun.
lack or excess of water
It is very important for the rose plant to get the right amount of water. Due to lack of water, the roots dry up and the bud formation in the plant is hindered. At the same time, excessive water is also harmful for the plant, because it can cause the roots to rot and the flowers to fall. Roses grown in pots should be watered from time to time. The soil should neither be completely dry nor very wet. Regular supply of water and taking care of soil moisture is very important for the blooming of roses.
lack of fertilizer and nutrition
If the rose plant is old or lacking in nutrition, the flowers do not bloom properly. It is important to add fertilizers and natural fertilizers like cow dung or homemade compost from time to time. With proper nutrition, the number of buds in the plant increases, the flowers become bigger and brighter, and the plant remains healthy and full of greenery. Regular application of fertilizer is especially necessary for older plants to maintain plant energy and growth.
Pests, fungus and not pruning
Insect and fungus attack on rose plants can affect the flowers. Also, not pruning the plant from time to time also stops the growth of flowers. Pruning helps control plant growth, focuses energy on flowers, and helps flowers bloom sooner and better. Regular pest control and pruning increases both the number and quality of flowers in the plant.
Right selection of soil and pot
The soil for a rose plant should not be heavy or alluvial, but light and drained. If water freezes in the soil, the roots may rot and the number of flowers may reduce. The pot should also be such that water can drain easily and the roots can get enough space. Selecting the right soil and pot helps the rose plant to bloom and gives longer life and better health to the plant.
