According to Swampon Thursday evening Dou addressed the rumors on his Weibo account, saying while he did not want to respond to the speculation surrounding his family, the situation was becoming increasingly “absurd.” He urged the public not to share false stories.

His management company later issued a statement, confirming that they had gathered evidence and would pursue legal action against those spreading rumors about an impending divorce.

Ho shared her husband’s post and reaffirmed the stability of their marriage.

“Thank you for your concern,” she wrote. “We understand your curiosity, but we believe there’s no need to prove our love to outsiders. Our marriage is still strong.”

The couple’s relationship has been under public scrutiny for some time, fueled by their few public appearances together and rumors sparked by film producer Tiffany Chen.

Earlier this month Chen claimed: “A rich man’s daughter is going through divorce proceedings with an actor, who had spent all his assets to organize a wedding with her.”

She did not name anyone, but thousands of people speculated that she was referring to Dou and Ho. Several accounts began spreading rumors such as “Shawn Dou is bankrupt after spending money on his wedding,” “Ho’s family does not provide financial support to Shawn Dou,” “Shawn Dou is accused of appropriating his wife’s assets,” and “Laurinda Ho forced Shawn Dou to sign a marriage contract.”

The couple married in Bali, Indonesia, in 2023 after dating for more than three years. At the ceremony, Ho thanked Dou for his patience and understanding, saying her fiery temper sometimes upset him, but he always forgave her.

The 34-year-old is the daughter of Stanley Ho and his third wife Ina Chan.

Stanley, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 99, was known for his extensive casino empire in Macau. In 2019 Bloomberg estimated his net worth at around US$14.9 billion, making him the 17th wealthiest individual in Asia at the time.

Following his death his fortune was divided between his daughter Pansy, fourth wife Angela Leong and son Lawrence.

Forbes estimated the net worth of his third wife Ina Chan to be $1 billion in 2021.

Dou, 36, first gained recognition for his role in Chinese auteur Zhang Yimou’s “Under the Hawthorn Tree.” His other notable films include “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Time to Love” and “Princess Agents.”
