New Delhi . India’s dream of stepping into space is about to come true very soon. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan has announced on Thursday that about 90 percent of the development work of Gaganyaan Mission has been completed. It is noteworthy that under the Gaganyaan project, three Indian astronauts will be launched into a 400 km low Earth orbit for a three-day mission. Gaganyaan mission is India’s first human space flight mission.

“Work on the Gaganyaan mission is progressing very well,” Narayanan said in response to a question about the progress of the mission. In fact, when you talk about the Gaganyaan mission, you know that there is a lot of technological development that has to happen – human-rating certification of the rocket has to happen, orbital modules have to be developed, and environmental control protection systems have to be developed. Then come crew protection systems, parachute systems and then, of course, human-centric products.”

The ISRO chief further said, “Now three unmanned missions have to be completed before going on to a crewed mission and we are working in this direction. In the first unmanned mission, Vyommitra is going to fly and we are working towards completing the manned mission by early 2027.”
