Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the National Democratic alliance, under the leadership of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will script a “record-breaking” victory in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. This was the first time that the prime minister endorsed the Janata Dal (United) chief as the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate.
Earlier in the day, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP did not want to make Kumar the chief minister again.
He was referring to Shah’s statement from October 17, when he said that while the NDA was contesting the elections under Kumar’s leadership, the decision about the next chief minister would be taken after the polls.
Yadav was named as the Mahagathbandan’s chief ministerial candidate on Thursday.
The Assembly polls are due to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, while the votes will be counted on November 14. Read on.
