Bhubaneswar: Odisha teens Preetismita Bhoi and Tikki Mohini Mallik have been selected to represent India in the weightlifting competition at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
At 16, Preetismita is already a talked-about name in Indian weightlifting, having won several laurels including gold with three meet records in the Commonwealth championship 63 kg category in Ahmedabad two months earlier.
The relatively inexperienced Tikki had finished fifth in the 63 kg event.
Weightlifting events at the Youth Games, which began on October 19, will be held from October 26 to 30. As many as 32 gold medals will be up for grabs.
Odisha has already tasted success at the Youth Games, , with Priyanka Pradhan contributing in Indian girls’ gold-winning effort in kabaddi.
