Ashok Saraf opens up on punctuality, comedy, 500-film journey and life with his wife Nivedita on Kitchen Kallakar: ‘I was never…’

Senior actor Ashok Saraf known for his iconic roles in Marathi cinema and Bollywood recently appeared on the popular show Kitchen Kallakar with his wife Nivedita Saraf. Hosted by Sankarshan Karhade the episode featured candid conversations about his life career and values. Special guest Nirmiti Sawant his long-time friend and co-actor from the play Vacuum Cleaner revealed a little-known trait about the veteran actor his punctuality. She shared Ashok Mama has a habit of reaching the set before the time or else on time. There was a rehearsal and the call time was 10 am. I reached the set at 10.15 am because of traffic in Mumbai. I saw Ashok on the set and people told me he arrived at 9.45 am. I said sorry to everyone and decided to leave early tomorrow before Ashok. I reached around 9.45 the next day and Ashok was already there. People told me he arrived at 9.30 am. (She laughs) Ashok Saraf has a habit of reaching the set on time. Reflecting on his extensive career of over 500 films Saraf emphasised discipline and dedication. He said I think an actor should first get committed to his work and his art. He should not discuss his whereabouts or personal life issues during work hours. The work hours should be utilised as work hours. We can discuss other things later. Why comedy demands seriousness Known for his impeccable comic timing Saraf believes comedy requires hard work and rhythm. I think my film Gondhalat Gondhal was the first one that broke the stereotype of Marathi films. Since then everyone started doing social comedy. Hum Paanch was one of the shows that changed the style of comedy and I feel so blessed he said. He also added We can only predict what film or project the audience would love but cant promise whether it would surely work at the box office. Personal life and celebrations Saraf got emotional discussing birthdays and personal milestones. I was never interested in celebrating my birthday. I am not that person but nowadays people respect me and celebrate my birthdays on shows and television and that makes me emotional he shared. When talking about his wife Nivedita he expressed deep contentment I have gone beyond promises. Nivedita is there with me and thats enough.
