The nation was rocked by the suicide of a government physician in the Satara region of Maharashtra. The doctor claimed that she had been raped many times by a sub-inspector and the son of her landlord in a suicide note that was scribbled on her palm. She said that throughout the previous four or five months, she had experienced physical and emotional harassment.

According to the police, the sub-inspector and Prashant Bankar, the son of her landlord, have been taken into custody. The police officer has been placed on leave.

Notably, Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, ordered the suspension of the SI. He imposed the suspension after speaking with Tushar Doshi, the Satara Superintendent of Police (SP).

Late on Thursday night, the 28-year-old physician, who was from Beed district and worked at the hospital in Phaltan tehsil, was discovered hanging in a Phaltan hotel room.

Name of Accused in Suicide Note

Sub-inspector Gopal Badane was identified by the dead doctor, who accused him of repeatedly raping and harassing her sexually. She also accused software developer Prashant Bankar of psychologically harassing her. Both have been charged with rape and aiding and abetting suicide.

“Badane raped me four times,” the message said. For almost five months, he raped me and mistreated me physically and mentally.

A charge of rape and abetment of suicide has been filed against two individuals, including a sub-inspector, at the Phaltan city police station, according to Satara SP Tushar Doshi, who spoke to media. Two teams have been established to track down and apprehend the two.

Additionally, the doctor had filed a complaint against several police personnel with the Phaltan SDPO (Sub-Divisional Police Officer). According to Doshi, the hospital management had received a separate complaint from the police against her.

“The dead reserved a stay at a Phaltan hotel. But when hotel employees rang the bell and knocked on the door of the room, she didn’t answer. Suspicious, the staff used a different key to enter the door and discovered her hanging. To find the accused, we have established two teams,” the SP said.
