The Indian film and television fraternity was plunged into grief on Friday following the demise of veteran actor Satish Shah, who passed away at the age of 74 due to kidney failure. The actor, remembered for his impeccable comic timing and memorable performances in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Main Hoon Na, and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, was mourned by colleagues, friends, and fans alike.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, describing Shah as “a true legend of Indian entertainment.” In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. Actor Kajol, who had shared screen space with Shah in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, wrote, “Gone too soon, but your laughter will echo forever. From the small screen world, Rajesh Kumar, who played Rosesh in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, said he felt like he had lost his father. “This is the worst hour for me… I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more… it feels I have lost my father. A man full of life and humour, he made his name and left his mark as an actor. This is a big loss to the industry and our Sarabhai family.”
The show’s producer JD Majethia too confirmed the news with a broken-heart emoji, writing, “My heart breaks to say this. Satish Shah is no more. Family will reveal details of cremation by tonight.”
