Varanasi. There is news of great relief for the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. The state government has further strengthened the scheme to provide high quality seeds to farmers at cheap prices. Joint Agriculture Director, Varanasi Division, Shailendra Kumar inspected the Government Seed Store, Chiraigaon on Saturday along with District Agriculture Officer Sangam Singh.
During the inspection, seed sales center in-charge Shivi Singh said that seeds of various crops are available in sufficient quantity at the centre. This includes mustard PM-32, gram RVG 202, pea IPFD, lentil Kota-3 and wheat varieties DBW-187 (Karan Vandana) and DBW-303. All these seeds are being distributed among the farmers as per the rules.
At the time of inspection, farmers Inderjit Singh of Ramchandipur, Umanath Singh of Mustafabad and Mohan Yadav purchased wheat seeds. The Joint Director of Agriculture said that high yielding seeds of pulse crops (gram, pea) and oilseed crops (mustard) as well as wheat are available in all the government agricultural seed stores of the division. All these seeds are being distributed to the farmers with 50 percent subsidy.
The District Agriculture Officer especially informed about the quality of wheat variety Karan Vandana (DBW-187). Apart from giving high production, this species is also better than other species in the amount of protein and iron. Seed distribution is being done on “first come-first serve” policy, so that all farmers can get the seeds on time and sow at the right time. This initiative will increase the chances of better production for farmers and is expected to improve their income.
