Devotees from Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal are immersed in fasting, river bank worship and rituals of gratitude towards nature during Chhath Puja 2025, which runs from October 25 to 28 in worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. For investors, an important question is: will BSE and NSE function during this holy festival? Here’s a glimpse of the trading schedule and the four-day festivities.

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) follow their standard 2025 holiday calendar during Chhath Puja. On October 25 (Saturday, Nahay Khay) and October 26 (Sunday, Kharna), the markets will be closed for the regular weekend. October 27 (Monday, Sandhya Arghya) and October 28 (Tuesday, Usha Arghya) are regular business days, and no festival- closures have been announced. Investors should check the websites of BSE and NSE for any last-minute updates to ensure uninterrupted trading during the festival rush.

The four-day festival of Chhath Puja begins with Nahay Khay (25 October), where devotees take a holy bath and enjoy onion-garlic-free sattvic food. A waterless fast is observed on Kharna (26 October), which is broken at sunset with offerings of jaggery kheer and roti. In the evening Arghya (27 October) families offer bamboo baskets filled with thekua, sugarcane and fruits to the setting sun on the river bank. The festival ends on Usha Arghya (28 October) with sunrise prayers, end of the fast and joyous distribution of Prasad.

Banking services remain accessible despite being closed during holidays, with account functions like NEFT/RTGS transfers, demand draft requests, card management, and standing instructions or locker applications possible through online services. This ensures financial continuity during festivals. Indian Railways brings the joy of folk songs to Chhath passengers across 30 stations, shining a light on the devotion and community spirit of this festival, which blends tradition and modern conveniences for millions of people.
