Hundreds of terms applied to Starlink
Starlink has to fulfill certain conditions to implement its service in India. The company has proposed to bring in foreign technical experts to operate its stations. But the government has made it clear that only Indian nationals will operate the station until the company gets security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Similarly, the Starlink service will not be available to the general public during the trial phase. Apart from this, all the data generated during the test will be stored securely in India, which is also the most important requirement for Starlink. In addition, Starlink is required to submit a report to the Department of Telecom every 15 days including the station location, user terminal and specific location of the user.
According to reports, Starlink needs to get license from SATCOM (Satellite Communication) and other spectrum allocation license to start operations in India. Both these licenses are likely to be awarded by the end of 2025. Therefore, it is predicted that the satellite service will be launched in India in the first quarter of 2026. However, initially the government has limited the number of Starlink users, meaning the company will not be able to offer more than 20 lakh connections in India.
