You will not have to pay Rs 50 for Aadhaar update, UIDAI changed many rules

Unique Identification Authority of India

Big news for Aadhar card holders. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several important changes related to Aadhaar in 2025, which will impact more than one billion people of the country.

Fees increased from October 1, updates will now be a little expensive

UIDAI has increased the fees for Aadhaar update from October 1, 2025. Now if you want to change details like your name, address, date of birth or mobile number, you will have to pay ₹ 75 (earlier it was ₹ 50). For biometric update (fingerprint, iris or photo), now you will have to pay ₹ 125, which was earlier ₹ 100. These new fee rates will remain in force till 2028. UIDAI says that these changes have been made keeping in mind the cost of service quality and technical improvements.

Relief for children, now biometric update is free

UIDAI has given relief for children. Now fingerprint and iris scan updates of children aged 7 to 15 years will be absolutely free. Earlier fees had to be paid for this also. Officials say that children's faces and fingerprints change over time, so this update is necessary. Schools have also been asked to help in this process so that no child's Aadhaar becomes inactive.

New document list and strict rules

UIDAI has released a new list of documents for Aadhaar update and new enrollment in July 2025. Now uniform and clear rules have been set for all Indian citizens, NRIs, OCI cardholders and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs). UIDAI has also made it clear that a person can have only one Aadhaar number. If anyone is found to have duplicate Aadhaar, action can be taken.

Free update period ends, now fees will be charged

UIDAI had given the facility of free online updates to the people till June 14, 2025. But now this deadline has ended. Now a fixed fee will have to be paid for any kind of update. Experts say that the free update facility may be available again for a limited time in the future, so keep an eye on the UIDAI website.

Big change from November 1, completely digital update system

UIDAI is going to start a new digital update system from 1 November 2025. Under this system, Aadhaar card holders will be able to update information like name, address, date of birth, gender and mobile number completely online, that is, now there will be no need to go to Aadhaar Seva Center to correct every minor mistake. In the new system, there will be automatic verification through government database. Now there will be no need for document upload or manual verification.

Rural areas will benefit

This step of UIDAI will be especially beneficial for the people of villages and small towns, where earlier they had to stand in long queues for updates. Now this process can be completed through OTP verification sitting at home through myAadhaar portal or UIDAI app. However, it will still be necessary to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra for biometric update (fingerprint, iris or photo).
