Left-arm fast bowler Gurjapaneet, who was with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, wreaked havoc in Nagaland’s batting innings early on the second day. Tamil Nadu made a big score of 512/3 in the first innings, after which Tamil Nadu took early wickets and Gurjapaneet won everyone’s heart with his bowling.

The fast bowler took his hat-trick in the sixth over by dismissing Sedezali Rupero, Hem Chhetri and captain Rongsen Jonathan. He took another wicket early in the 10th over when he dismissed Chetan Bisht to reduce the hosts’ score to 31/4. Gurjapaneet has become the third player to take a hat-trick in the current round of Ranji Trophy. Earlier, Services players Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra had taken hat-tricks in the match against Assam in Tinsukia on Saturday.

Meanwhile, he is the seventh player from Tamil Nadu to take a hat-trick in the domestic premier red-ball competition, with B Kalyanasundaram, Bharat Arun, Sunil Subramaniam, D Devanand, R Ramkumar and M Mohammed having done so. Mohammed was the last player to take a hat-trick for Tamil Nadu in the tournament, having done so in 2018.

Talking about the match, Tamil Nadu scored 512/3 in the first innings thanks to a double century by Pradosh Paul and 189 runs by Vimal Khumar. Andre Siddharth C scored 65 runs, while Baba Indrajit also scored 32 runs. Nagaland bounced back after losing four early wickets at the end of the day. Dega Nischal and Yugandhar Singh scored an unbeaten half-century and made an unbroken partnership of 119 runs for the fifth wicket. The hosts ended the day at 150/4, but still trailed by 362 runs.
