James Gunn’s 2025 “Superman” reboot is now being considered for the Oscars. This marks the first time in 46 years that a Superman film is in contention for the prestigious awards. The movie stars David Corenswet and has completed a highly successful theatrical run, drawing audiences worldwide.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have submitted the film under the “For Your Consideration” (FYC) campaign for the 2026 Academy Awards. The submission includes 16 categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. If selected, it will be the first Superman film since Christopher Reeve’s 1979 version to receive Oscar recognition. Reeve’s “Superman” had earned nominations for Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Sound.

The 2025 “Superman” reboot has been praised for its direction, performances, and visual effects. The story explores a modern take on the iconic superhero while maintaining the essence of the character that audiences love. David Corenswet plays Clark Kent, bringing a fresh energy to the role, while Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan return in key supporting roles. Critics have highlighted the film’s balance of action, emotional depth, and visual spectacle.

Alongside “Superman,” Warner Bros. Discovery has submitted several other films for Oscar consideration. These include Mickey-17, Sinners, Weapons, One Battle After Another, and A Minecraft Movie. This move shows the studio’s strategy to position its films for both commercial success and critical recognition.

Following the success of the 2025 release, grossing over $615 million globally, James Gunn has announced a sequel titled Man of Tomorrow. The sequel will reunite David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan. It is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.

The Oscar push reflects DC Studios’ ambition to establish its superhero films as not only box office hits but also contenders for major awards. Industry experts say that if the film receives nominations, it will be a major milestone for superhero cinema, demonstrating that comic book adaptations can compete at the highest levels of filmmaking.
