She has been a Miss Universe the most talented actress in Bollywood and now rules the OTT world with her latest series Aarya. Yes we are talking about Sushmita Sen the epitome of beauty elegance and grace. From adopting a girl child at a very young age and becoming a single mother to her dating life the actress has always been open about her personal life which often made headlines. But among all of them it was her first boyfriend Rajat Tara who left a lasting mark on her heart. In one of her earlier interviews Sushmita admitted that despite many people walking in and out of her life her first love still holds a special place. Speaking on Farooq Sheikh’s talk show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai she revealed an emotional chapter from her younger days a time when her then-boyfriend Rajat sacrificed his own career to help her become Miss Universe. Who was Rajat Tara? Back when Sushmita won the Miss India crown she was required to travel to Mumbai for her Miss Universe training. Being a Delhi girl who had never lived away from home she was scared to make the big move. That’s when Rajat stepped in. What did he do for Sushmita? Recalling the incident Sushmita said “When I won Miss India I had to go to Mumbai for training. I was scared because Mumbai felt like a foreign country to me. Rajat told my mother ‘Aunty she won’t agree easily so I’ll go with her. You don’t worry.’” At the time Rajat was working for Benetton a well-known clothing company. When he asked for a month’s leave to accompany Sushmita his request was denied. But instead of backing down he made a life-changing decision. Did he quit his job for her dreams? Sushmita shared that Rajat didn’t think twice before quitting his job. “When he was denied leave he told his company to do what they thought was right and he resigned. He sacrificed his career for me and came to Mumbai to help me train for Miss Universe” she said on the show. That one month changed everything not just for Sushmita who went on to win the Miss Universe 1994 crown but also for Rajat who had put his heart above his career. Heres why they parted ways Though the couple later broke up Sushmita never spoke ill of Rajat. In a conversation with Mid-Day she clarified “I didn’t leave Rajat. How can anyone leave such a person? But as we move ahead in life our paths sometimes take us in different directions.” Today Rajat Tara is said to be happily settled with his family while Sushmita continues to focus on her career and life’s many roles as an actor mother and inspiration to millions.
