New Delhi. The country’s largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), is preparing for major recruitment to further strengthen its work and provide better services across the country. The bank is going to appoint about 3,500 officers in the next few months. This news is a golden opportunity for those youth who want to make their career in the banking sector.
Recruitment of Probationary Officer and Specialist Officer
SBI Deputy Managing Director (Human Resources) and Chief Development Officer Kishore Kumar Poludasu told PTI that the bank had recruited 505 probationary officers (POs) in June and the recruitment process for the same number of posts is currently underway. Apart from this, 1,300 specialist officers have been selected for important areas like IT and cyber security.
He further informed that advertisement for 541 PO posts has been issued and applications have also been received. PO recruitment will be held in three stages—preliminary exam, main exam and then interview followed by psychometric test. Along with this, the bank is also considering the recruitment of 3,000 Circle Based Officers (CBOs), which can be completed in this financial year.
Big announcement of 18,000 jobs
Earlier this year, SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty had made a big announcement that the bank will make a total of 18,000 recruitments in various categories. Out of this, there will be 13,500 clerical (clerk) posts, while the rest will be posts like Probationary Officer and Circle Based Officer. In the first quarter itself, the bank had announced the recruitment of 13,455 Junior Associates and 505 POs, so that customers get a better experience in branches across the country.
strategy to promote women
Poludasu said that SBI is working on a special strategy to increase gender diversity. The bank aims to increase the share of women in its workforce to 30 percent in the next five years. Currently, 33 percent of frontline workers are women, but this figure is 27 percent of the total workforce. The bank is taking several steps to reduce this gap.
“Our goal is to have a workplace where women can advance at every level,” she said. For this, the Bank has launched several special initiatives, such as crèche allowance for working mothers, family contact programs and training for women returning after maternity leave or prolonged illness.
Women get leadership opportunity through ‘Empower Her’ initiative
SBI has launched a special initiative called ‘Empower Her’, which aims to prepare women for leadership roles. Under this, structured leadership labs and coaching sessions are being organized to prepare top women executives in the bank in future. Poludasu said that the total employee force of the bank is more than 2.4 lakh, which is the highest among any organization and banking sector in the country.
This recruitment and women empowerment initiative of SBI will not only open new opportunities in the banking sector but will also promote employment and inclusivity in the country. If you are also dreaming of making a career in banking, then this can be a big opportunity for you!
