Chhath Puja 2025: Today is the third day of Chhath Puja. This day is considered the most sacred because there is a tradition of offering water to the setting sun on this day. This day is a symbol of devotion, faith and dedication. On this day, fasting women keep Nirjala fast for the whole day and in the evening, they receive the blessings of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya by offering water to the setting sun.

The evening puja of Chhath festival is considered very special. On this day, devotees wish for the happiness and prosperity of their family, long life of their children and happy life. This puja is performed with utmost purity and simplicity. Women take bath, wear new clothes and head towards the ghat or pond to worship the setting sun.

Reaching the ghat, the women prepare prasad consisting of thekua, jaggery kheer, rice, fruits and sugarcane on an earthen stove. This prasad is kept in a bamboo basket. During the worship of Sun God, women stand in water and offer Arghya to the Sun. The entire family joins them and together they sing songs dedicated to Chhathi Maiya.

Importance of Evening Arghya

Offering Arghya to the setting sun is an important ritual during the Chhath festival, which is considered a symbol of gratitude. It reflects a feeling of gratitude towards nature and accepting the ups and downs of life. According to beliefs, this Arghya is dedicated to Pratyusha, the wife of Sun God, who symbolizes the last ray of the Sun.

These are the rules for offering water to Sun God

To offer water to the Sun, first mix red sandalwood, vermilion and red flowers in water. While offering water, pay attention to the sun's rays, make sure they are light and not too strong. While offering Arghya, chant the mantra “Om Suryay Namah” 11 times. After this, face the Sun and revolve around the Sun three times.
