The mystery of an alleged AC blast accident that took place a few weeks ago in Gandhi Vihar area of North Delhi has now been revealed. Delhi Police on Monday revealed that it was not an accident but a planned murder, which was born out of a dangerous conspiracy of love, revenge and forensic minds. The deceased has been identified as Ramkesh Meena, a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant. His live-in partner Amrita Chauhan (21), a forensic science student, committed the murder along with her ex-boyfriend and an LPG distributor Sumit Kashyap (27) and his friend Sandeep Kumar (29). All three accused are residents of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, Amrita and Sumit tried to show the murder as an AC blast accident by using their respective knowledge of forensics and gas technology. Investigation revealed that Meena was murdered and the flat was set on fire so that the police considered it an accident.
DCP (North) Raja Banthia said that the three accused had come to Delhi from Moradabad on the night of 5-6 October. CCTV footage showed two masked men and a woman entering the flat. At around 2:57 am, the woman and a man go outside, and a few minutes later a massive explosion occurs. DCP Banthia, “CCTV and forensic report made it clear that it was not arson but murder.”
During police interrogation, Amrita told that she was living with Meena since May. But when she came to know that Meena had recorded her personal videos and was not deleting them despite repeated requests, she had a mental breakdown. She told this to her ex-boyfriend Sumit, who planned to teach her a lesson and brought along his friend Sandeep.
On the night of 6 October, all three reached Gandhi Vihar. After entering the flat, they killed Meena by strangulating her and beating her with a stick. After that, the dead body was burnt by adding ghee, oil and liquor and an explosion was caused by opening the valve of the gas cylinder to make it look like an accident.
After the murder, all three locked the flat from inside, and came out through a small hole made in the door. After a few minutes the cylinder exploded. Police found a burnt body, traces of explosion and suspicious burn patterns at the spot, which changed the direction of the investigation.
Police traced Amrita’s mobile location data and call detail records, which led to her presence at the incident site. He was arrested on 18 October. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed the names of his accomplices. On the basis of this, Sumit was arrested on 21 October and Sandeep was arrested on 23 October.
Police say that Amrita’s studies in forensic science and attraction towards crime web series helped her in hatching such a conspiracy. He tried to portray the murder as a ‘perfect crime’, but technical investigation exposed everything.
The team of Inspector Pankaj Tomar (Police Station Timarpur) connected the entire incident with the help of technical surveillance, call records and local intelligence information. Police have recovered hard disks, mobile phones, clothes and bags from the accused. Currently all three accused are in police custody. A case has been registered against them under sections of murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
