Meta Platforms announced on Monday that CEO Mark Zuckerberg has appointed Vishal Shah an insider at the company to a new strategically-focused AI role where Shah will be responsible for product management for the company’s artificial intelligence products. Who is Vishal Shah and what is his background at Meta? The appointment underscores Big Techs growing interest in artificial intelligence as companies invest top talent and resources in developing AI. Meta competes with Microsoft and startups like OpenAI and Anthropic to build the best AI models. Where did Shah start his career after graduation? Shah was previously the product management lead for Instagram at Meta for over six years before being promoted to Vice President of Metaverse in 2021 to oversee the company’s vision for a virtual world in three dimensions. The significant development was initially reported by The Financial Times on Monday citing an internal memo. Shah will report directly to Nat Friedman Meta’s AI product lead according to the report. Shah obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science and Business from the University of California Berkeley as stated in his LinkedIn profile. In May 2004 he graduated. He first worked as an engineer at Redi2 for less than a year. Later he joined Accenture as analyst. From 2005 to 2013 Shah was the Director of Engineering at Turn a digital marketing company for seven years. He then spent two years as Senior Director of Product Management. In 2015 Shah became the Director of Product Management at Instagram which he served till November 2018 before being promoted to Vice President of Product which he held until August 2021.
