Sehbaz Sharif Misleading News: Pakistan’s top leadership itself remains ahead in spreading fake news. A new example of this nefarious campaign was seen on 27 October 2025, when Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif tried to spread lies on Jammu and Kashmir, an integral part of India. Sharif, posting from his official

But this time social media platform X’s Community Notes team immediately issued a fact-check on Sharif’s post and termed it as misleading news. Fact Check said that Maharaja Hari Singh had officially agreed to the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India on 26 October 1947. It was only after this agreement that India sent its army to Srinagar on October 27. This was not an “invasion” but a legal and legitimate action.

The community notes cited the archives of India’s government radio service Akashvani, which contains the historic Instrument of Accession of Maharaja Hari Singh. Apart from this, X also shared links to other historical documents which prove that the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India was completely legal and constitutional.

Pakistan presents October 27 every year as the so-called “Black Day” and claims that India “occupied Kashmir” on this day. But the historical truth of 1947 says something else.

What is the historical background?

At the time of the partition of India in 1947, Jammu and Kashmir was an independent princely state. Maharaja Hari Singh initially wanted to remain independent but on 22 October 1947, Pakistan-backed tribal raiders started infiltrating Kashmir. These attackers captured Uri and Baramulla and reached just 50 kilometers away from Srinagar. The situation became serious and news of looting, murders and atrocities on women shook the state.

Maharaja Hari Singh asked for help from the Government of India. India clearly said that assistance is possible only if the princely state legally merges with India. After this, on 26 October 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession, and on the morning of 27 October, India’s first military contingent reached Srinagar. This was India’s first air military action, which pushed back the Pakistan-backed infiltrators and secured Kashmir.

This is the first major case under X’s new fact-checking policy, which came into effect in May 2025, in which a false claim by a country’s prime minister was publicly declared misleading. After this step, Pakistan government is being criticized a lot on social media.
