Millions of email passwords leaked, was your password stolen? check like this

Desk: The accounts of crores of users are at risk due to the leakage of crores of email passwords due to data breach. The password leak also includes the passwords of Google’s email service Gmail Accounts. Australian security researcher Troy Hunt, who runs the breach notification site Have I Been Pwned, has claimed that about 3.5 terabytes of data has been stolen.

According to the New York Post report, the dataset includes 183 million (about 18.3 crore) accounts but there are about 16.4 million (about 1.64 crore) addresses that were not affected by the data breach.

According to the report, through HaveIBeenPwned.com, users can easily find out whether their password has been affected due to data breach or not. After visiting this website, you will have to search by entering your email ID, this site will tell you due to which data breach in which year your password has been leaked.

If you have come to know from the search result of the website that the password of your account has also been leaked and you are also one of the 18.3 crore affected people, then you will have to change the password immediately without any delay. Apart from this, you will have to turn on two factor authentication for the safety of the account.

In a blog post, Hunt explained that the leaked credentials were leaked via Stealer Logs. Data breach has been carried out through dangerous software infostealers. Three things are leaked in a data breach, first is the website address, second is the email address and third is the password.

A Google spokesperson said that the reports to the data breach affecting millions of users are completely false. Although a Google spokesperson may have denied the data breach, you are advised to create a strong password for the safety of your account, enable 2-step verification and change the password regularly after some time.
