A fresh controversy has shaken Pakistan’s fashion industry after designer Faiza Saqlain accused actress Maya Ali’s brand, Maya Pret, of copying her clothing designs. The claim has sparked a wave of online debate and hinted at a fallout between the two once-close friends.
Faiza shared her frustration on Instagram by posting a photo comparison of her outfit and one from Maya Pret’s latest collection. Alongside the pictures, she wrote, “Should I be flattered? Inspiring this brand in ALL respects, from dress to model to backdrop. It’s getting boring now @mayapretofficial. Please come up with something of your own.”
The statement quickly spread across social media, surprising fans who remembered the warm friendship between Maya and Faiza. The two often supported each other’s work and shared cheerful moments online. However, this latest post suggested a change in their relationship.

Soon after the designer’s post, social media users flooded the comments section — but most did not agree with her claims. Many argued that the designs looked nothing alike and that such fashion trends are widely used by many brands.
One user wrote, “This isn’t a copy at all. These kinds of silk sarees and embroidered dresses are common everywhere. I didn’t expect this from a designer like Faiza.”
Another commented, “Maya Pret’s designs are unique. This feels like unnecessary drama.”
Some even accused Faiza of being jealous of Maya’s growing success, while others reminded her that she too has faced criticism for taking inspiration from Indian designers in the past.
Despite the heated online reactions, Maya Ali has chosen not to respond directly. Instead, she shared a calm picture of herself on Instagram with a song in the background — a quiet move many fans saw as her way of ignoring the controversy.
