There exists a prejudice that everything Sydney Sweeney does is to cater to the male gaze. The debate that rose with her bathwater soap further cemented this belief. Things took a major turn for her negatively when she did an ad campaign for American Eagle Jeans.

“I play a lot of very divisive characters, and I think that a lot of people think they know me, but they don’t. So, when people think, ‘Ah, she’s a s*x symbol,’ or ‘She’s leaning into that,’ I’m like, ‘No, I just feel good and I’m doing it for myself and I feel strong.’ And I hope that I can inspire other women to be confident and just flaunt what they got and feel good because you shouldn’t have to apologise or hide or cover up in any room,” she said.

The actress talked to Variety, opening about the remarks being made for her body without her own opinion being taken into the mix. Her title as a s*x symbol was something she turned a blind eye to because, at the end of the day, it is her body and she can do whatever she wants with it.

Sydney Sweeney's confidence makes her immune to all the hate she has been getting. Her entire mantra is to preach what has been given to you. She doesn't let anyone tell her what she should do with her own image and her own body.
