In this series, actor Emraan Hashmi will soon be seen in a film which is based on one of India’s most talked about and sensitive legal cases – the Shah Bano case. The name of the film is said to be ‘Haq’. This issue has been very delicate as it is to the rights and personal law of Muslim women. In such a situation, with the announcement of the film, fears of controversy over it and it being termed as against a community have also arisen. Now, on these criticisms and questions, the hero of the film, Emraan Hashmi himself has broken his silence and clarified the motive behind making the film. “This film is not against any one community.” During an interview, Emraan Hashmi made it clear that the intention of his film is not to hurt the sentiments of any religion or community or to point a finger at them. He said, “I want to make it clear that our film is not pointing fingers at any one community. It is not about religion at all.” So what is the story of the film? Imran told that this film has not been made from the perspective of religion, but from the perspective of women’s rights and gender equality. He revealed that the story of the film is told from the perspective of Shah Bano’s husband. Imran said, “It is a story of a legal battle and a husband-wife relationship. We have presented it as a human story. Its purpose is not to create controversy but to start a positive dialogue.” How is it different from ‘The Kerala Story’ or ‘Article 370’? When he was asked whether this film is also like ‘The Kerala Story’ or ‘Article 370’ When it comes to the category of films like ‘370’, Imran said that every film should not be weighed on the same scale. He stressed that the purpose of ‘Haq’ is not to make anyone a villain, but to present a complex legal and human issue before the audience. He also said that the film has been approved by the Censor Board and the Board has also accepted that the film is not against any community. Imran believes that today’s audience is very intelligent and will watch the film with its true intentions. Now it remains to be seen how the audience will accept this film when it comes on screen.
