Moni, Jaiveer clinch gold in wrestling at Youth Asian Games 2025

New Delhi: Moni clinched India’s third wrestling gold at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, defeating Krgyzstan’s Sezim Zholdoshbekova 10-0 in the girls’ 57 kg final in Bahrain on Wednesday, October 29. She had defeated China’s Xu Xiaohan 8-0 in the semifinal bout. Jaiveer Singh won the gold medal in the boys’ 55 kg freestyle wrestling, beating Japan’s Yamato Furusawa despite trailing 0-6 in the final.

He defeated Kazakhstan’s Ibrahim Yskakbek 5-0 in the semifinal. Rachana bagged a bronze medal in the girls’ 43 kg event, defeating the Kyrgyzstan wrestler by an emphatic 11-0 margin.

Komal Verma also added another bronze medal to India’s tally in the girls’ 49kg freestyle, defeating China’s Mo Xiaoqing. She had earlier lost against Japan’s Yuu Katsume 0-10. Later, Gaurav Punia will take on Iran’s Morteza Haj in the boys’ 65 kg freestyle gold medal match.

India will have a chance to add another gold through Ashvini Vishnoi, who will face China’s Min Zhao in the girls’ 69 kg freestyle. She defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Aiana Asamalikova 3-0 in the semifinal.

Disappointing campaign for Indian shuttlers

In badminton, India’s Vennala Kalagotla lost against Thailand’s Anyapat Phichitpreechasak 19-21, 13-21 in the girls’ singles quarterfinals. The mixed double pair of Bjorn Jaison and Angel Punera also lost against Indonesia’s Athresia Candani and Raihan Pramod 21-14, 17-21, 16-21 in the quarterfinals.

Tankara Talasila lost to China’s Xu Ji Ning 21-17, 17-21, 8-21 in the boys’ singles, and Suryash Rawat went down to another China shuttler, Luo Jing Yu 17-21, 16-21.

India’s medal tally in Youth Asian Games

So far, India have won six gold medals, 11 silver, and 15 bronze in the 2025 Youth Asian Games, while China are at the top of the medal tally and Uzbekistan are in the second position.
