Neil Warnock has slammed Dermot Desmond's scathing assessment of Brendan Rodgers this week. The Northern Irishman departed from his post as manager of Celticafter a 3-1 defeat to Heart of Midlothian on Sunday, which leaves the current Scottish champions eight points adrift of the top spot.

Tension has been building amongst fans during the 2025/26 season, with defeats to Dundeeand Heartsdomestically as well as a 2-0 loss at home to Braga in the Europa League frustrating the majority. On Monday evening, Celticannounced Rodgers' exit which came alongside a statement from the club's majority shareholder.

Desmond branded the former Celtic manager's actions this season as "divisive, misleading and self-serving", adding that they have "contributed to a toxic atmosphere" at the club. However, former Aberdeeninterim manager and English footballing icon Warnock isn't too happy with the statement.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "I think it was just sour grapes, if I’m honest. I think Brendan’s been a little bit disillusioned for a while now. He’s done absolutely fantastic there."

Highlighting the transfers across Scotland during the summer, Warnock added: "And the recruitment in Scotland this year has been a disgrace. Rangers’ recruitment? Some of those players wouldn’t get in my Torquay side.

"And Brendan knows that they’ve been very similar. It wouldn’t have stood out so much if Hearts hadn’t come along. But the way that the recruitment’s been in the summer.

"You talk about Danny Rohl going in at Rangers. I look at Scotland, having been up there. Those two clubs need someone who knows what they’re doing."
