ChatGPT Go Will be available absolutely free. This step has been taken towards further strengthening its presence in a fast growing market like India.

What is ChatGPT Go?

ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s mid-tier subscription plan, an option between the free version and the premium ChatGPT Plus. It was launched in India in August, with a monthly price of ₹399. This plan will now be available free for one year, which will provide Indian users with a better AI experience which includes:

Why is this decision special for India?

“Since launching ChatGPT Go in India, we’ve been inspired by the creativity and engagement of users. Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event, we want more people in India to be able to take advantage of advanced AI technology, so it’s been made free for a year,” said Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT at OpenAI.

Sam Altman, founder and CEO of OpemAI, has also admitted that India is not only the company’s second largest market but also the fastest growing country. According to the company, after the launch of the paid version of ChatGPT Go, paid subscriptions in India have more than doubled, indicating tremendous demand for AI services.

This step is a direct reply to those companies which are trying to capture the Indian market rapidly. Google recently made its AI Pro membership (worth ₹19,500) free for students for a year, while Perplexity partnered with Airtel to offer free access to its premium features. Amidst these aggressive strategies, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go has also now entered the battle for AI market share in India.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go is currently available in around 90 countries, with India emerging as the largest user base. This offering can further make the use of AI easier for millions of content creators, students and professionals in India in the coming months.
