Tanzid Tamim regrets not finishing the job as Bangladesh lose series to West Indies

Bangladesh’s batting woes continued as they suffered another defeat against the West Indies. This time, they lost by 14 runs in the second T20I in Chattogram. The loss means the Tigers have already lost the three-match series 2-0 with one game still to play.
After restricting the West Indies to 149 runs, Bangladesh looked in control at several stages of the chase but failed to capitalise once again. Despite a brilliant innings from opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who scored a fluent 61 off 48 balls, Bangladesh fell short.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Tanzid expressed deep frustration at not being able to see his side at home. “Given how the pitch was playing, a set batter had to finish the game. It was a bit sticky. The ball wasn’t coming onto the bat. For new batters, it was really tough,” said Tanzid. “I feel if I had stayed till the end, the match would’ve gone our way. On this kind of wicket, the set batter must finish things off.”
Tanzid also revealed what was discussed with Jaker Ali Anik, who scored 17 off 18 balls during a small partnership. “I told Jaker bhai that we’ve seen how well he batted in the previous series against West Indies. I reminded him he could do it again, that if he stayed till the end, we’d win. But the responsibility was more on me, and I couldn’t deliver,” he admitted.

The left-handed opener didn’t shy away from acknowledging the batting unit’s shortcomings. “No matter what the wicket was like, 150 was definitely chaseable. It was a batting failure, plain and simple. We couldn’t take responsibility. Maybe it was just a bad day for all of us. Now it’s about how we bounce back. We must reduce the dot balls. That’s an area we need to improve fast.”

Reflecting on the team’s recent struggles, Tanzid added, “It’s been a tough time for us batters. We’re struggling with consistency. We need to find ways to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard moving. The wicket wasn’t easy. The ball wasn’t coming on. You could see that even from their innings. But we have to adapt better.”
Despite his dismissal, Tanzid said there was still belief in the dressing room that Bangladesh could pull off the chase. “Of course, we believed. Jaker bhai was there, Shamim (Hossain), Rishad (Hossain), and Tanzim (Hasan Sakib), all can hit big shots. We thought a couple of boundaries could change the game. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. Hopefully, we’ll fix these mistakes in the next match.”
