Kamal Haasan who has dominated Tamil cinema since the 1970s is considered a superstar for his acting and his selection of films. He entered the acting world at a very young age and quickly became one of the biggest names in South Indian cinema. His popularity grew so much that he soon began receiving offers from Hindi cinema. His 1981 film Ek Duje Ke Liye starring Rati Agnihotri was a huge success and Kamal Haasan made a strong entry into Bollywood. Made a special place with Ek Duje Ke Liye Kamal Haasans Hindi debut film was a remake of his own Telugu hit Maro Charitra but it had twice the impact. The romantic story and his brilliant acting won over audiences. The film proved to be a blockbuster and everyone was excited about the South Indian star. He subsequently starred in several other films including Sanam Teri Kasam Sadma and Saagar but his commitment to Tamil films limited his presence in Hindi cinema. Manmohan Desai got angry when asked for the script Kamal Haasan revealed in an interview that he had asked filmmaker Manmohan Desai to see the script of Allah Rakha. This angered Desai. According to Haasan He told me that even Amitabh Bachchan doesnt ask for scripts. Haasan stated that his intention was simply to understand the story not to insult anyone. However after this incident he realized that the working style of Hindi cinema was a little different from his. And perhaps this was the turning point when he said goodbye to Bollywood. When Kamal Haasan did one film at a time Kamal Haasan stated in an interview that he doesnt start another film without completing one. He said I work the same way: slowly in detail and with complete dedication. Hindi films have a long process and by the time one film is finished a year and a half can pass. During this time you become disconnected from the industry and miss out on many opportunities. Perhaps this was the reason why despite his impressive debut he never emerged as a major star in Bollywood.
