Moong Dal Ka Halwa: Make the most delicious winter sweet at home in just 20 minutes

Moong Dalwa Halwa: Moong dal halwa holds a special place among Indian sweets. It is not only delicious in taste but is also very beneficial for health. Its consumption especially in winter gives warmth and energy to the body. Today we will know about home made moong dal halwa recipe, its health benefits and some useful preparation tips.
Recipe to make Moong Dal Halwa
- Yellow Moong Dal – 1 cup
- Ghee – ½ cup (more as required)
- Milk – 2 cups
- Sugar – ¾ cup (as per taste)
- Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
- Saffron – 5-6 threads (soaked in 1 tablespoon milk)
- Cashews, almonds, pistachios – finely chopped for decoration
Method of preparation
- Soaking the lentils: Wash the moong dal and soak it in water for 4 to 5 hours.
- Grinding the lentils: Drain the water from the soaked lentils and grind them coarsely in a mixer without or adding very little water.
- Roasting the lentils: Heat ghee in a heavy bottom pan, add the lentils and fry on medium flame until they turn golden. When the aroma starts coming and the color of the dal changes, then understand that the dal has been roasted properly.
- Mixing milk and sugar: Now add milk to it and cook while stirring continuously until the dal becomes soft and thick. Then add sugar in it, stir and cook for 10-15 minutes.
- Final touch: When the halwa starts releasing ghee, add cardamom powder and saffron milk into it.
- Decoration: Garnish the prepared halwa with chopped dry fruits and serve hot.
Tips to make Moong Dal Halwa
- While roasting the halwa, keep the flame medium so that the lentils do not burn.
- The better the pulses are roasted, the more delicious the halwa will be.
- Use a non-stick or heavy bottom pan.
- If you want, you can use water instead of milk, but milk makes halwa richer and tastier.
- It can be stored in the refrigerator for 3–4 days, warm it slightly before eating.
