Who was Veer Barbarik?

Khatu Shyam ji In fact, the brave man of Mahabharata period was Barbarik. He belonged to the Pandava clan. He was the grandson of Bhima. And his father's name was Ghatotkach and mother's name was Morvi. Barbarik was very strong and brilliant since childhood. He had received three divine and infallible arrows from Goddess Chandika. These arrows had the ability to destroy all three worlds in a moment and would hit the target and come back to them. For this reason he is also called 'Three Arrows'.

The great story of Sheesh Daan

When the Mahabharata war was about to begin, Barbarik also decided to join it. Before going to the war, he had promised his mother that he would always support the 'losing side'. Lord Shri Krishna knew that Barbarik's power was so immense that on the strength of his three arrows, if he supported the losing side (Kauravas), the outcome of the war would change. Shri Krishna made a plan to ensure the victory of Pandavas in the war.

Shri Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and stopped Barbarika and asked for donation from him. Barbarik promised that whatever he asked for, he would definitely give it. Then Shri Krishna asked for his head as Dakshina. Barbarik, without any hesitation or attachment, keeping his word, cut off his head and offered it at the feet of Shri Krishna. Pleased with this great sacrifice and devotion, Lord Krishna gave a boon to Barbarik.

Why did Shri Krishna give the boon of being worshiped by the name 'Shyam'?

Lord Shri Krishna was very pleased with this unique sacrifice of brave Barbarik. Also, Barbarik had expressed his wish that he wanted to see the entire war of Mahabharata with his own eyes. Barbarik donated his head without any hesitation to protect his word and religion. The Lord became emotional due to his great sacrifice and unwavering devotion towards Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna gave him a boon that on the arrival of Kaliyuga, he would be known and worshiped by the name of 'Shyam' (which is a name of Shri Krishna). Shri Krishna also said that whichever devotee will remember his name, all his troubles will go away and he will attain Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Along with this, he was also blessed that he would always support the defeated and disappointed devotees.
